Caitlin, a pupil at Cardinal Newman High School, said: “I still can’t believe what has happened. It’s mind-blowing and I have to pinch myself sometimes.

“To have my songs recognised on a national stage is all I ever wanted.”

Caitlin entered the national competition which champions independent artists trying to break into the music business.

She appeared at the showcase for Scotland and the North East at Edinburgh’s Voodoo Rooms, and then won a place at the London final at the Half Moon in Putney.

Caitlin said: “The theme of the competition was mental health and the slogan “I am here.”

“The song I performed, “I wanna” is about reaching out and needing someone to comfort you during a difficult time.

“It obviously struck a chord. I’m delighted with my achievement and there has been lots of interest since.

“I’ve been interviewed on local radio and my music is being played all the time.”
