‘Phantom’ football pitch at Lanark Grammar

There’s a brand new, state-of-the art football pitch in Lanark where more bucks are being passed than balls.

This has led to a Phantom Football League growing up in the area to make illegal use of the all-weather playing ground at the new Lanark Grammar School campus.

So claim local residents around the new school, who have approached the Gazette for help after what their spokesman alleged was “months and months of getting the runaround about exactly who is responsible for the pitch”.

The spokesman, like his neighbours, is not prepared to be named; they all fear revenge being taken on them for being seen as “killjoys” by the clandestine footballers now regularly climbing over the security fence at nights to play unsupervised matches.

The whistle-blower said: “Sometimes it’s bedlam at night.”
