The Fir Park star lashed in from the edge of the box with eight minutes remaining after a defensive header had fallen to his feet as Scot Gemmill's side avoided recording a fourth-straight game without a goal.

The win keeps Scotland under-21s - also featuring ex-Motherwell star David Turnbull - in contention for European Under-21 Championships qualification, as they are third in Group 4 trailing section leaders Czech Republic by four points having played a game less.

The young Scots' next group game is at home to the Czechs at Tynecastle on October 9.
