April Manager of Month Award is team effort says Motherwell manager Graham Alexander
Motherwell FC’s Graham Alexander has stressed that his Scottish Premiership Glen’s Manager of the Month award for April 2021 was a team effort.
Of the games the Steelmen played in April, they beat Formartine United 5-0 away and Morton 5-3 on penalties at home following a 1-1 draw after extra time in rounds three and four of the Scottish Cup, also recording two 1-0 league wins against St Mirren (home) and Hamilton Accies (away) to secure their Scottish Premiership status.
Although they lost a Scottish Cup quarter-final at Hibernian 4-2 on penalties, ’Well earned plaudits for battling back from 2-0 down with just 10 minutes remaining in the regulation 90 minutes to force extra time.
“It’s recognition for results on the pitch,” Alexander said.
"It’s obviously not down to one person, whether it’s a staff member or player. It’s down to a group of people, on the pitch, off the pitch, behind the scenes.
"I’m really pleased that the results have got this award but it’s down to a lot of people.
"And I must acknowledge that because every manager will tell you that it’s a real tough job and impossible to do on your own.
"You need good people around you and good players. And that’s what we’ve had for the last few months and it’s every credit to everybody who’s contributed.
“I'm proud of the commitment and togetherness everyone has shown over the last few months."
Alexander replaced Stephen Robinson as ’Well boss in January.
He will be trying to lead the Steelmen to another league victory at home to Kilmarnock today, KO 3pm.
