Carluke charity matches raise more than £6000

A series of football matches at Carluke’s John Cumming Stadium has raised a total of £6000 for a local cancer charity.

The games, involving teams of supporters of Motherwell, Rangers and Celtic, was organised by Carluke man Gareth Greenshields.

In the end it was the Motherwell team, captained by Gareth, which won the tournament – comprehensively beating Rangers in the final match of the round-robin format.

However, the big winner was Lanarkshire Cancer Care which received the bumper cheque.

Gareth said: “Considering we only had a few weeks to get things ready, I thought it went very well.”
