A season to forget

Disappointment has been a common them for Queen’s Park this season.

However, the future looks brighter for the Spiders following a week of progress.

Manager Gus Macpherson has been working hard to secure the club’s playing squad for next season. As a result, Sean Burns and Gavin Mitchell have put pen to paper with new deals.

They join club captain Tony Quinn and James Baty in extending their time at Queen’s to the end of season 2014/15.

The boss, who took over from Gardner Speirs in January, said: “Hopefully, before end of the season, we can add a few more bodies.”

“We have been fortunate that we knew we had a period of time to assess things and then identify the areas of the squad that we would like to strengthen for next year.”

Meanwhile on the pitch, the club, who were mathematically confirmed to be in tenth place in SPFL league two on Saturday, have now gone three games without a loss.

There 1-1 draw with Annan at Galabank on Saturday follows identical results against Montrose and Elgin in weeks prior - a dramatic improvement in a season in which losing has become the norm.

Pride is at stake during the club’s final two games of the season. On Saturday, the Spiders host Berwick Rangers, while, on May 3, the southsiders travel to Cliftonhill Stadium to take on Albion Rovers.
