Reaping rewards for keeping their Focus

The project aims to provide a range of educational and recreational programmes to promote and encourage active citizenship and lifelong learning, and the event acknowledged the achievements of its young people over the last year.

Members of the project received certificates for skiing, rock climbing, First Aid, kayaking, power boating and sailing – all of which are linked to the relevant national governing bodies.

Twelve personal achievement awards were presented to: Julia Redmond (sailing), Tammy Agnew (rock climbing level one), Claire Shanks and Becky McGraw (rock climbing level two), Ross Guy (power boating level one), Tiffany Hammond (power boating level two), James Baylan (one star kayaking), Corey Blevins and Sarah McCord (beginners skiing), Ben Brown (advanced skiing), and Connor Halford and Chloe West (First Aid).

In addition there were certificates for Dynamic Youth and Duke of Edinburgh Awards handed out and there were also two outstanding achievement awards presented to Emma West and Darren Glancy.

The certificates were presented by Thorniewood councillor Jim McCabe, North Lanarkshire Council locality manager David Young, senior community learning and development worker Aileen McEachen, Royal Yachting Association instructor Bob Campbell and Focus Youth Project treasurer Tom Bell.

There was also a special presentation to former council leader Mr McCabe by Focus Youth Project secretary Ellen Davidson on behalf of the management and staff in recognition of his ongoing support.
