Kirkintilloch woman pleads guilty to housing fraud

Kayleigh McCord of Abbotsford Drive in Kirkintilloch told Council Officers she was homeless when, in fact, she had a tenancy with Glasgow Housing Association.

She fraudulently gained access to Council housing in East Dunbartonshire but Officers uncovered the deception and recovered the property.

Sentence in the case was deferred until October 5.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie, convener of the policy and resources committee said: “In these times of such financial constraints, it is more important than ever that we uncover all fraud against the Council.

“Housing Tenancy Fraud is one of the most common types and we must continue to work with our partners to ensure that social housing is going to the people and families who need it. “

The council’s Fraud Action Plan sets out how Officers will continue to investigate such fraudulent claims and also look at other areas like Council Tax reduction and Blue Badge applications. This is to ensure that the right people are in receipt of the right benefits and housing provision, for the right reasons.
