Gun found in Shawlands bin

POLICE were called to Shawlands on Sunday night after a gun was found in a street bin.

Officers attended the scene on Abbot Street after receiving a call from a member of the public who had spotted the weapon.

Armed response units were also in attendance, and both Abbot Street and Frankfort Street were closed to the public from around 9pm, while forensic officers searched the surrounding area.

Traffic was diverted at Shawlands Cross until the gun was recovered.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that the firearm had been recovered, and added that inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
