Gathering memories in honour of East Ren’s fallen
Newton Mearns south representative Ian McAlpine has joined forces with Mearns History Group and the Newton Mearns British Legion in a bid to bring stories of family members who fought and died in the conflict to light.
The appeal follows research by the history group into the names featured on the area’s war memorials — and some which were left out.

“We are still keen to hear stories or see photographs from anyone who has a family member who fought in WW1.”
The Men of Mearns leaflet will be distributed at a remembrance event held at Mearns Kirk on August 17, 2.30pm, including a traditional drumhead service.
The councillor added: “This is the only East Renfrewshire service being held, and all local people and organisations are very welcome.
