Former hospital patients to be surveyed

As part of the fourth Scottish Patient Experience Inpatient Survey, 12,870 former NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde inpatients will receive questionnaires through the post over the next few weeks asking for their opinion about their stay in hospital.

Patients who stayed in hospital between April and September 2013 will be randomly selected and asked their views on six specific areas of inpatient experience: admission to hospital; the hospital and ward; care and treatment; hospital staff; arrangements for leaving hospital; and care and support services after leaving hospital.

Rosslyn Crocket, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Director of Nursing, said: “We are continually working to improve our services for our patients and receiving feedback on the areas where we are doing well and also where we are not doing so well is vitally important.

“There are many ways in which our patients can tell us what they think of the care they have received and we value this feedback as the most useful way of improving.

“This latest round of inpatient questionnaires will augment our own existing feedback systems which include our recently launched online Patient Feedback which is available on our website www.nhsggc.org.uk

“Since it was launched in November 2013 we have been receiving a steady flow of patient comments which we pass directly to frontline service providers to flag up issues where we can improve services and where services have worked really well and could be emulated elsewhere.

“The national survey provides patients with another equally important way of letting services know where improvements are needed. We would encourage anyone who receives this questionnaire to complete it. All feedback received helps to make our health service better for all.”

The results from the survey will be published in August 2014.
