Trying to fix flooding problem at cemetery
North Lanarkshire Council is currently carrying out work to try to alleviate flooding problems at Bothwellpark Cemetery.
This comes after Danny Lowdon went to his parents grave to lay flowers for Mother’s Day only to find it under water.
He said: “Flooding in the cemetery has been a bit of an issue for a long time, I’ve been told there are problems with water running down into it.
“However, I’ve never seen it like that – I couldn’t even get near the grave due to all the water and apparently that wasn’t even as bad as it had been as the staff were trying to pump out some of water.
“Obviously pumping isn’t a long-term solution and I hope they come up with something as I’m sure everyone would like to be able to visit their loved ones graves without concern about flooding.”
The council believes it has come up with a solution.
A spokesperson said: “Work started on site at Bothwellpark Cemetery last week to install new drains and a footpath to help alleviate the flooding issues.
“The work is expected to take two to three weeks to complete, and a second phase of drainage work will take place next year.”
