Cannabis haul worth £180k seized at Motherwell address -and police seek information on violent attempted robbery in Wishaw

Police have confirmed that a “significant” quantity of Class B drugs was seized from a Motherwell address on Saturday, (January 9).

Officers with a search warrant arrived in the town’s Dalriada Crescent around 6pm.

They found cannabis plants and associated material which has been valued at more than £180,000.

No arrests have been made at this point and further enquiries into the recovery are ongoing.

Sergeant Thomas Cairns said: “Drugs misuse brings nothing but misery to our communities. I want to reassure the people of Lanarkshire that we will continue to use every tool and tactic at our disposal to remove illegal substances from the streets.

“These efforts have continued throughout the ongoing pandemic and offenders should not believe themselves to be beyond the reach of the law.

Meanwhile police have issued a Lanarkshire wide-appeal after an attempted robbery saw a 41-year-old man seriously assaulted in a property in Wishaw’s North Kilmeny Crescent on the same night.

A pair of men forced their way in and demanded money from the victim before attacking him. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

The first man is described as being around five feet ten, of medium build, with brown eyes and a high-pitched voice.

He was wearing a black hoodie and black trousers, which were grey at the top.

The other man is described as six feet tall of,medium build, wearing a black hoodie, with white writing, and black trousers.

Officers are also attempting to trace a black Volkswagen Golf which was seen in the area at the time of the incident. Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident 3523 of January 9.
