Claire Buchanan (6) of Kirkintilloch, suffers from a range of disabilities, including
low muscle tone and joint hyper mobility, which means
she can’t walk without
pain.

Devoted mum Kim set up crowdfunding campaign ‘Claire’s Journey’ just before Christmas in a bid to buy a specialist wheelchair for her little girl.

Thanks to the generosity of local people, the fund smashed its £3,250 target in just three weeks.

As well as public donations, Kim organised stalls at the Christmas lights switch-on at Kirkintilloch and a festive fair at Hillhead Church.

Businesses also helped, and Glasgow charity Ceridian Payback Foundation
awarded the family a grant of £2,000.

Last week, Claire was
presented with her brand new wheelchair, complete with “Frozen” Disney logo from
specialist company Vedlink4kids.

Kim also organised a thank you party at Hillhead Church last weekend for everyone who helped to raise the cash.

Kim said: “People have been so generous.

“The good thing about the wheelchair is it can be adjusted as she grows, so it should last for about the next five years.”

Claire developed problems when she was three-years-old and her condition has baffled doctors.

When she walks, the little girl’s ankles bend and the pain can be unbearable.

Because there is no
specific diagnosis, Kim says she has had to battle for help
from agencies and the local authority.

On top of her mobility problems, Claire, who attends Merkland School, also has hearing difficulties, speech and language delay, dismorphic facial features and a heart murmur.

Kim added: “This new chair will make such a difference to Claire’s life.

“I really can’t thank
everyone enough.”
