Big hearted Bruce MacKenzie hands over cheque to Wishaw General

A motorcyclist who was seriously injured in a horrific crash last year has handed over a cheque for almost £4000 to the hospital that helped him with his rehabilitation.

Bruce MacKenzie, from Braehead, was so impressed with the treatment and care he received for his injuries – including a broken pelvis and two broken wrists – that he decided to raise money for Wishaw General’s critical care unit.

Amazingly, only five months after his appalling accident at Kaimend, the 48-year-old and four friends walked the 56 miles from Fort William to Inverarnan to help raise £3883.55 – an event named by Bruce as the Big Dunt Challenge.

Bruce, who works as a forensic community psychiatric nurse, said: “The staff in Wishaw were amazing. I was transferred to Glasgow but I didn’t want to leave as they looked after me so well.”
