All clear for schools after cladding check

After the horrific tragedy in London the council decided to assess all authority-owned buildings, including schools, residential properties and public buildings.

It compared its buildings to the construction risk factors identified at Grenfell, and found no cause for concern with any of the properties’ cladding.

Six East Ren low rise schools (none above 18 metres in height) have a different form of ACM cladding, and all are installed in accordance with the relevant technical requirements, while meeting stringent national building and fire safety regulations.

The schools are all designed with fire safety early warning smoke and fire detection systems, automatic sprinkler systems fitted throughout as well as multiple fire exits.

All East Ren schools also have well-rehearsed fire evacuation procedures.

Fire risk assessments have also been carried out for each property in conjunction with the council’s health and safety team in compliance with Fire Safety (Scotland Act 2005) and Fire Safety Scotland Regulations 2006.

The schools are Eastwood High School, Woodfarm High School, Barrhead High School, Mearns Castle High School

and the faith schools joint campus of St Claire’s and Calderwood Lodge.
