Six weeks of delays due to park works

The upgrade is reckoned set to benefit school pupils and parents, sports clubs and community groups, council staff, theatre-goers, and gym users.

Split into four phases, the work is being carried out during the school summer holidays in order minimise disruption as much as possible.

Environment convener Councillor Alan Lafferty said: “With such a high volume of traffic using Eastwood Park regularly, including leisure centre and theatre-goers, St Ninian’s pupils and parents, local sports clubs and council staff, it is important that this much-needed work is carried out.

“The work has been scheduled for during the school holidays to try to minimise disruption and we appreciate residents’ patience during this time. Once completed, the improvements will benefit everyone who uses Eastwood Park.”

During the work the main car park will be levelled and resurfaced, and improved drainage will be installed.

This will be carried out in two sections, the first from now until Thursday, July 20, and the second from Monday, July 24 to Friday, August 11.

Resurfacing the access road will also be done in two parts.

The first will be on this Saturday and Sunday (July 8, 9) from Rouken Glen Road to the exit from the Leisure Centre car park. This means there will be no vehicle access to the campus this weekend.

Alternative parking will be signed as a diversion to the rear of Eastwood Park, and parking will be available in the side streets off Rouken Glen Road.

The final section of resurfacing will be done from Friday, July 21 to Sunday, July 23, which won’t affect access to Eastwood Park campus – but the St Ninian’s car park will be closed on these dates.
