Amy goes old school for EP

Amy Shields unveils Hummingbird at The Hug and Pint in Glasgow tomorrow (Thursday) with the CD version featuring artwork by 17-year-old Grammar pupil Jessica Thomson.

Amy (20), now a Commercial Music student at UWS, said: “As well as music I was also very good at art when I was at school and I was close with some of the teachers there so when I needed someone to do a cover for the EP I approached them.

“They recommended Jessica, I already had the name Hummingbird and after I explained the kind of thing I was looking for I was blown away with what she came up with.

“It was good to be able to give Jessica an opportunity with real life work and experience , and just as so many people have encouraged me to pursue music I am happy to encourage her to pursue her art. “

Amy, who has appeared at the likes of King Tut’s and The Garage, has been playing the guitar since the age of nine and says writing and performing her own material was a natural progression.

She said: “I find writing songs comes very naturally, it is a good way to get your feelings out and all the songs are very personal to me.

“Jim Gellatly at Amazing Radio and Roddy Hart at Radio Scotland played my songs over the weekend and if the EP is successful I have plenty more to come.”
