Athletic out to maintain winning run

JUNIOR side Bellshill Athletic will be out to make it a ‘high five’ when they take on Port Glasgow in a Central League First Division clash at Fullarton Park.

Athletic have won four games in a row, all against teams bearing the name Thistle, after edging out Larkhall on Saturday to follow up their league win at East Kilbride and cup successes against Ayrshire pair Ardeer and Largs.

And they will be hopeful of continuing their winning streak against a Port Glasgow side who are second from bottom of the league table - three places below Bellshill - with just two league wins so far this season.

Honours were even in clashes between the sides last season, Bellshill winning 1-0 at home but losing 2-1 away.

Meanwhile Thorniewood will be out to emulate Bellshill by getting the better of Largs when they travel down the coast to face them in a Super League First Divison match.

United’s match with Rutherglen Glencairn last Saturday was called off, leaving them in 10th place in the table with eight points from six games.

Largs are fifth with 14 points from nine games as they chase a quick return to the top flight following last season’s relegation.

Both Saturday’s games will kick-off at 2pm.

There were no winners in last week’s Bellshill Athletic lottery. This week’s prize will again be £2,000.
