A group battling for housing for the elderly to be built on the site of the former Lenzie Primary School has stepped up its campaign.

Lenzie Pre-Community Development Trust is holding a meeting on Monday, October 24 at 7.30pm in Lenzie Union Parish Church (new hall) and urge local residents to attend.

Morris Holms of the group said: “We have representatives attending from Development Trusts Association Scotland who will give a talk on setting up a Community Development Trust.”

Trust members are accusing East Dunbartonshire Council of ignoring them.

Mr Holms added: “We have an ageing population in Lenzie with not one house suitable for the elderly who have lived all or a substantial part of their lives here.”

On Monday, Thomas Glen, Depute Chief Executive – Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets, said he had met with the Trust earlier this year before the sale of the school was concluded.

He added: “I was back in touch with the group last week offering them a range of dates for a follow-up meeting and I await their response.”
