A homage to Braveheart
Organised in recent years by the SNP but advertised as being open to patriots of all parties or none, the 3rd Barrhead Pipe Band led the procession from the Old St Kentigerns Church to the town centre where wreaths were laid by Angela Crawley MP, Councillors Julia Marrs and David Shearer and by Dr Phillipa Whitford, MP who gave this year’s Guardian’s Address.
She paid homage to The Braveheart and pointed out that you didn’t have to be born in Scotland to become a Scot; the MP herself hails from Northern Ireland. The participants then went to Greyfriars Church to visit the Clydesdale Gaelic Initiative and listen to local musicians Bill Beattie and Kevin Bryce and poet Les Hunter.
