Ian ‘Sheepie’ Smith admits the lure of appearing in a show he has never done before was enough to bring him back for panto season in Motherwell.
Sheepie stars as Jimmy the Jester in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Motherwell Theatre until January 3.
Having just appeared in Peter Pan the Musical in Motherwell last month Sheepie is delighted to be returning so soon for his seventh panto.
He said: “This time last year there were plans that it wasn’t going to be Snow White, it was going to be Jack and the Beanstalk or Peter Pan, which I had done before so thought maybe it was time to look at other options.
“Really once we started with Cinderella I forgot all about and had a great time and when Snow White was announced I was so pleased it was a panto I hadn’t done before.
“Motherwell is my second home, my girlfriend is from here, so I spend half my time in Edinburgh and half my time in Motherwell anyway so everything was right to come back.
“Jimmy is a different character to Buttons, he was in love with Cinderella and was rather more heartfelt which was a nice challenge, this time I can get back to being my silly self which I revel in.”
Sheepie isn’t the only returning face to this year’s pantomime, with Craig Godson (Prince Antonio) in Cinderella last year and Alan J Mirren and Jamie Lemetti (Mac & Tosh) in Aladdin two years ago.
He said: “It’s nice to have a few old faces returning as I enjoyed working with them, but all the new faces seem lovely and are all really up for putting on a belter of a show.”
