Motherwell singing sensation Nicholas McDonald could be the next Subo - but before the X-Factor audience gave him a standing ovation it briefly seemed he might not make it.
With his family, friends and scores of fans from Bothwell, Bellshill, Uddingston and Motherwell glued to the screen, he silenced all criticism with an X-Factor performance of ‘You Raise Me Up’ that reduced judge Nicole Scherzinger to tears.
Our initial coverage of his meteoric success - followed avidly by mum, Eileen, from Bothwell and dad Derek, from Uddingston - attracted no less than 8,348 views on our Facebook page.
And that’s just the start of what may turn out to be lasting fame.
Nicholas previously auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent - having received strong encoruagement from Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus.
That time around it was reckoned he was too young, and that he’d find it impossible to cope with the phenomenal pressure.
Despite being described as having a ‘raw’ quality to his voice the budding superstar schoolboy is a polished act compared to early efforts.
Mum Eileen said: “He is obviously a bit overwhelmed by it all, but at the same time everybody has been really great - he’s getting plenty of the support he needs from everyone we know.
“That will be in his mind when he goes on to the most difficult stages of the contest, because he really values that support - and I’m delighted Times & Speaker readers are all behind him.”
