Folk singer Charlie Landsborough has kicked off his latest UK tour which brings him back to Motherwell Concert Hall on Friday, October 23.
He said: “We are going all over from Inverness in the north to Cornwall in the south and all points in between.
“On this tour it is all venues we have done before so it will be like going to meet old friends, and nowhere is that more true than Motherwell.
“I have been busy writing material for a new album which we will record after the tour is over for release in April.
“However, at this stage they have only been shared by myself and my producer, the band haven’t even heard them yet, so it will be the next tour before they get a live outing.
“We have put together what I think is a very exciting set-list. Of course you have to include the songs everyone knows, but will also be doing some songs that haven’t been heard live for many, many years as well as a few covers, including a little known John Lennon song.”
Those with access to BBC Northern Ireland will be able to see Charlie on TV later in the year as he joined Irish music legend and current Strictly Come Dancing star Daniel O’Donnell for an episode of Opry an Iúir.
Charlie said: “I have a lot of time for Daniel, when I was getting started he introduced me to his audiences, both here and in Australia and they started to come to see me so I have a lot to thank him for.
“Recording the show was a gruelling day from 11.30am to 1.30am the next morning, but it was good fun, and I was able to experience hearing my music in Gaelic for the first time.
“In the past it has been translated into Afrikaans and Welsh, but a young singer called Mharidh did an excellent rendition of If Only in Gaelic and when I was shown the translation it was absolutely beautiful.”
The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets costing £18.50 (concessions £17.50) are available online or call 01698 403120.
The Times & Speaker has two pairs of tickets to give away, to enter answer the following question and e-mail using the header ‘Motherwell competition’.
