Carluke Amateur Operatic Society members are so fed up with their Lifestyles Centre base they’re moving shows to Motherwell Theatre.

Past-president Heather Coulthard said: “The Lifestyles Centre is a tin roof with poor acoustics, not enough changing or dressing rooms and it doesn’t have a bar. It is not good enough.

“I am not wanting to slate the council, the opera members just want a better venue. There is nowhere else suitable in Carluke, which is a shame, so we’re moving to Motherwell Theatre.”

CAOS rehearse its latest musical Hairspray at the centre, but the show itself will be performed at Motherwell Theatre from October 6-10.

Heather said:“Moving away from Carluke is heartbreaking, the vast majority of cast members are upset at having to move to Motherwell.

“But it is better for our Glasgow-based members, as Motherwell is handier for them to get to.”

South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture general manager Gerry Campbell offered to discuss an alternative venue.

He said: “The centre is capable of holding up to 400 theatre-style and over 200 cabaret-style seating, four changing areas support the main hall and other areas within the venue can be opened up.

“The large stage area is supported by a tech room, which enables groups to perform with good quality sound and lighting equipment.

“There is also a purpose built bar for functions and a free standing temporary bar can be set up.

“We’ve venues such as Lanark Memorial Hall or Hamilton Town House and would be happy to discuss these options with the society.”
