A former musical theatre student from Motherwell College is gearing up to bring some vintage charm to this year’s Burns celebrations.
Sarah Laing, who graduated from the college in 2009, will perform her one-woman show, The Music of Doris Day, at the popular Big Burns Supper festival in Dumfries later this month.
The show, which has already enjoyed a successful run at The Shed in Glasgow, features stories about Doris’ life and renditions of some of her most popular songs such as Que Sera Sera, Secret Love and Sentimental Journey.
Sarah said: “I remember seeing Calamity Jane for the first time when I was nine and being blown away by Doris’ performance as she not only had a beautiful voice but was really funny, too.
“I liked how quirky she was and knew that I wanted to perform like her one day – now I’m delighted to be getting the chance to do just that!”
The talented 25-year-old, has wanted to pursue a career in the industry since she got her first role as Dorothy in her Brownies’ production of The Wizard of Oz when she was nine.
She said: “I am just as excited about stepping into Doris’s shoes now as I was stepping into Dorothy’s ruby slippers when I was nine.
“Performing at the Big Burns Supper is an absolute dream come true for me and I hope that everyone who comes along enjoys the show.”
