Folk star back to school

Many artists talk of giving something back, and then some actually do; folk singer Charlie Landsborough belongs firmly in the latter camp.

Known for his generosity of time and deed Charlie has been invited to become Musical Patron of St Vincent’s school for the visually impaired in his home city of Liverpool.

This residential special school has been running for over 180 years and aims to tailor its pupils’ needs to fit into modern society and provide future prospects.

Charlie, a former teacher before finding musical fame in the 50s, joins other Patrons including Lord Alton of Liverpool, ex-World snooker champion John Parrott and Tim Reddish of the British Paralympic Association.

In addition Charlie’s song “What Colour Is The Wind”, written about a blind child, is to be adopted as the school’s anthem.

Having spent most of the year writing material for his next studio album, Charlie takes to the road this autumn to play a handful of selected dates and will be performing at Motherwell Concert Hall on Friday, October 28.

Charlie said: “The people who know me want to hear the songs I’m known for and we’ve resurrected some great older songs too, plus there are some great anecdotes to lighten the proceedings.”

The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets costing £18.50 (£17.50 concessions) are available by calling 01698 403120 or visiting Culture NL
