NORTH Lanarkshire Leisure's Yvonne Murray Mooney MBE has lent her support to a new service which is designed to give youngsters in the area extra protection during their sporting activities.
The Olympic bronze medallist has given her backing to Safeguarding in Sport - the new title for the former Child Protection in Sport service run in partnership by CHILDREN 1st and sportscotland, which keeps children supported and safe when they take part in sport.
The rebrand has been designed to provide sports governing bodies, leisure departments, and clubs - and in particular coaches and leaders - with additional information and advice about the overall welfare of children, rather than just encouraging the reporting of suspected abuse.
Yvonne said: "The reality, sadly, is that there are many children and young people who are abused, bullied, isolated or neglected.
"Sport is well placed to help these children. I think the fact that coaches can turn to Safeguarding in Sport for help and guidance is invaluable."
