A leading bookmakers firm this week listed former Motherwell midfielder Simo Valakari as hot favourite to land the Fir Park manager’s job full-time.
The Finn (42), is currently managing in his homeland. The man who made 104 appearances for ’Well between 1996 and 2000, was today (Wednesday) 1/2 favourite to get the post made available by the recent sacking of Ian Baraclough.
Current caretaker boss Stephen Craigan was 5/1 second favourite with Sky Bet. Eighty-five applications have been received.
A club spokesman told the Times and Speaker on Tuesday afternoon that the club’s board had still to begin the process of whittling down the 85 names to a shortlist of five or six.
