VIEWPARK teenager Thomas Logan struck silver when he took part in the British boxing championships in Wales.

The 14-year-old Viewpark ABC fighter, competing in his first GB championships and looking to add to his Western district and Scottish titles, made it through to the final of the 50kg division.

And the Uddingston Grammar pupil was only a whisker away from grabbing the gold at the University of Glamorgan, losing out by just a single point in the final against England’s Ryan Garner.

Both boxers showed their intent early on in the round and flew in at each other with powerful combinations.

Thomas did have to take a standing count in the first round but in an all-action bout the scores were close at the end with a relieved Garner taking gold by 19-18.

The club will be holding a presentation dance and fundraising night in Burnhead Bowling Club on Saturday, September 29.

Doors open at 7pm and donations can be made at the door.
