Skippy seeks first Firhill win since 2013

Motherwell ace Scott McDonald is hoping to end a three-year Firhill hoodoo when the Steelmen visit Partick Thistle on league duty this Saturday.

It’s not been a happy hunting ground for the Steelmen who have lost on their last three visits to Maryhill.

Motherwell’s last victory at Firhill was a thumping 5-1 triumph under Stuart McCall way back in December 2013.

“Thistle is never an easy game,” Scott said.

“That has been the scene of a few disappointments in recent times.

“Ever since we were chasing that relegation play-off (’Well lost 2-0 there in April 2015) we have gone there a couple of times.

“We’re looking to put that right. It’s not that the performances haven’t been there, it’s just been unfortunate at times that we’ve conceded silly goals at silly times.

“Hopefully we can put a stop to that this Saturday coming.”

’Well make the Thistle trip sitting in the top six with eight points from six games, which represents a solid start.

McDonald said: “It’s nice that we’re doing well but we’re looking down rather than up at the moment.

“Look it’s early days isn’t it?

“It’s so nip and tuck like I said.

“It’s always tough. I don’t think there are many games that you can call in this league at the moment.

“It’s the same as last year. It’s very nip and tuck and teams that can get on a run will shoot up the table.

“If we can get a couple more wins then that stretches the gap even more so we’ve just got to build on this now.”
