Dalziel went down to their 12th defeat in 16 BT National League Division 3 games when they lost 48-19 to RHC at Dalziel Park on Saturday.

However despite the eventually convincing margin of victory the final scoreline didn’t reflect the Motherwell side’s overall performance.

RHC struck first with a try which they converted and that was followed by a penalty which put the Edinburgh side 10-0 up.

Dalziel responded however with a try from Darren Moon which he himself converted to reduce the deficit to 10-7.

The visitors scored a further two tries but Dalziel once again hit back with a second try from Gavin Armstrong.

Once again Moon was on target with the conversion to leave the Motherwell side still in the match at the break.

However they were up against it when RHC scored two further tries early in the second half to leave them with a comfortable advantage.

To their credit Dalziel refused to give up and another try by Les Barclay - his first for the club for some time - gave them something to cheer.

But as they pushed forward to try to reduce the gap still further they were caught on the break as RHC added to their score to run out 48-19 winners.

Next up for Dalziel is a home match against West of Scotland on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

West are currently fifth in the table with 11 wins and seven defeats from their 18 games, while Dalziel remain second bottom.

Once of those West wins came against Dalziel in November when they ran out 49-11 winners.

That will be followed by another home game against Irvine, a match brought forward to Friday, February 27 with a 7.30pm kick-off due to Scotland’s Six Nations match with Italy the next day.

Meanwhile Uddingston’s search for that elusive first win of the season goes on this Saturday.

The Villagers, who had no game last weekend, travel to fifth-placed McLaren having lost all 11 West District Division 2 games so far.

The match will be the sides’ first meeting this season.
