NEWARTHILL bowler Kirsty Gardiner has set a new club record at Orbiston BC - at the age of 25.
She is the first female to win all four singles competitions at the club, but her success goes far beyond the Bellshill green as she reached the the semi-final of the world under-25 event this season.
Gardiner said: “I joined Orbiston last season after seven years and five championship wins at Motherwell Miners Welfare to change the competition and improve my game.
“This probably was my most successful season to date with four singles tites, being the Scottish under-25 singles runner-up and winning the Jersey women’ pairs.”
On top of her busy bowling schedule, she took part in the Olympics-inspired Dallaglio Flintoff Cycle Slam earlier this year.
The Virgin Media employee took up bowls at the age of 13 and has played it ever since.
She said: “I play because it’s a sport I am good at and enjoy. I have played for Scotland under-25s since I was 17 indoor and 19 outdoor.
“I enjoy the competitive side of bowls and even though there aren’t many people my age that play it’s a very sociable sport.”
