Uddingston Cricket Club hit their best form of the season as they defeated defending champions Ayr by 91 runs on Saturday.
The Villagers elected to bat first at Bothwell Castle Policies after winning the toss and Anwar Hafeez and Gowtham Rai put on 60 for the first wicket.
Hafeez was out for 27 in the 21st over, caught at mid-off after a mistimed shot.
Gavin Bradley joined Rai who reached his 50 in the 24th over with a clip off his legs for four.
Bradley was caught behind for 33, bringing Aamir Gul to the crease and he contributed 22 before being dismissed.
When Rai was caught behind soon afterwards, just two short of his century, Uddingston were on 191 for 4 and further knocks of 18 by Derek Allan and 17 not out by Allan Laycock allowed the home side to post a total of 248 for 8
Ayr’s hopes rested on South African Lenart van Wyk who made 65 but when he was dismissed the Alloway side lost their last six wickets for just 12 runs to hand 2013 champions Uddingston just their third victory of the season.
Pick of the Uddingston bowlers was Ian der Beer who took 3 for 22.
Skipper Bryan Clarke said: “We’ve had a good look at ourselves and made a few changes that seem to paying off.
“We’re playing positively and to our strengths and on this form we’re as good as anyone.”
This Saturday Uddingston are away to bottom side Renfrew.
