Uddingston Hockey Club romped to a 11-0 win over FMGM Monarchs on Saturday.

The Villagers picked up where they left off after their 8-1 win at Aberdeen GSFP in their opening game of the season to crush their opponents who were promoted from National 3 last season.

Scoring got underway within the first three minutes with a clinical strike from Josh Cairns.

It didn’t take long for more goals to follow from open play and set pieces and Uddingston went into the break 5-0 up.

Despite losing several short corners the visitors failed to score.

Uddingston continued to press and were relentless in their pursuit of goals as they added a further six in the second half.

Cairns netted a total of five goals while the other scorers were Martin McIntosh (2), Laurie McKelvie, Jonjo Lavin, Steven Percy and Nairn Scobie.

Meanwhile Uddingston youth player Alan Johnston captained Scotland at the weekend in the Youth School Games in Sheffield.

He led the team to a fine 4-0 win against Wales and also in a 3-2 loss to Ulster, a hard game where they found themselves 3-0 down before fighting back and were unlucky not to sneak a draw.

Scotland eventually ended up second in the tournament.

There was also success for the club’s youth section who enjoyed a clean sweep at the Arran Invitational Festival last week.

Entering teams into the Under-10, 12 and 14 events they dominated each of the competitions and did their coaches proud, winning every game against some hard opposition, including Arran, Clydesdale and Helensburgh and going on to win the overall shield.
