Holytown fighter Chris Bungard is looking forward to the biggest night of his career on Saturday as he competes for Scotland’s top MMA promotion.

Bungard takes on Matti Laurenson from Aberdeen in a lightweight contest at Fife Ice Arena in Kirkcaldy as he makes his debut for On Top Promotions.

He said: “It’s great to finally be making my debut for On Top as they are Scotland’s biggest MMA promotion.

“We had tried to fix something up in the past, but I was either injured, on holiday or something, so it never happened, but I’m glad things fell into place. “

Laurenson is actually the third opponent to be named for Bungard, and he thinks possibly the toughest.

He said: “This will certainly be my toughest fight to date and probably even tougher than it would have been against the other two guys who pulled out.

“Matti has developed a good reputation in the sport so I am looking forward to going toe-to-toe with him, I can’t worry about him, I’ll have my game plan and it’s up to me to execute it.”

Fife Ice Arena holds up to 4,000 spectators and Bungard is set to perform in front of the biggest crowd of his career.

He said: “I have fought at the Kelvin Hall in the past in front of 2,000 people, but it seems like there will be more there than that on Saturday night.

“I’m looking forward to it, after many years in the sport you are never 100 per cent there is always a few niggles here and there, but I feel good, my training camp with the Scottish Hit Squad has gone well and I can’t wait for the bell to ring.

“My last fight was at the Alona Hotel in February which feels so long ago, I was supposed to fight in April, but my opponent pulled out, however, the extra rest may work in my favour and if I can put in a dominant performance against such an accomplished fighter on a big show it sends out quite a message.”
