Uddingston Hockey Club’s ladies’ first XI clinched the championship in a final day decider on Saturday.
The title triumph was sealed with a 4-0 win over Arran by the Villagers who will step up into West District Division 3 next season.
The game started with obvious pressure on both sides since Arran were also in the running for the title.
Uddingston were able to control this pressure and eventually managed to break into Arran’s attacking D, giving them the first early shots on goal, although to no avail.
However the Villagers made the breakthrough just before half-time after they were awarded a penalty corner.
A powerful strike from Caitlin Flynn to forward Stephanie Gemmell, waiting on the post, was then deflected across the goal mouth and finally pushed over the line by Nina Boothby.
The second half with Arran breaking through Uddingston’s defence but the visitors were unable to make it count.
Uddingston stayed determined to win and, knowing a one goal lead was not enough, they went on to score a further three goals.
Lauren Dalrymple and Taylor Jobson were on target before the final goal came from Olivia Mullen, just seconds before the final whistle.
The newly formed second XI have also had a great season, ending up mid-table as the club continues to flourish in their year of ‘homecoming’ to their very own state of the art hockey pitch.
