Holytown MMA fighter Chris Bungard hopes a dominant display in his fifth professional fight will catch the right eyes in the sport.
Bungard takes on Kieran Malone in a classic striker versus grappler match up at the Alona Hotel in Strathclyde Park on Friday, February 20.
Having beaten his last four opponents in the first round Bungard is looking for the same outcome, but knows it will be much tougher to pull off.
He said: “Kieran is one of the best lightweight wrestlers in the country and is well respected across the UK so this will be a real step up in quality.
“I do think though that I have the wrestling ability to match him and although he will probably take me down I’m not just going to lie there. I’ll be getting up to hopefully knock him out.
“I have won all my professional fights in the first round and will be looking to do the same as it would put down a real marker against quality opposition.
“However, the main thing is picking up the win, I’ve been training hard for three rounds and if goes longer then I’ll be ready.”
This is Bungard’s first time fighting at ‘home’ since his first professional fight.
He said: “The venue is sold out so should be a good atmosphere, I always have a big crowd behind me and I’ve very grateful for their support.”
With UFC making their Scottish debut in May this is an exciting time for MMA in the country and Bungard hopes he might catch the eye of the industry leader.
He said: “With UFC coming here for the first time it shows that MMA is booming in Scotland.
“A couple of my team mates from the Hit Squad in Coatbriodge have been invited on the card and I’d love that opportunity too.
“It might not happen this time, but if I still have a good record when they come back then may get the opportunity and if I can impress UFC then who knows what it might do for my career.”
