Lasley: new signings are settling in well

The Steelmen moved quickly to bring in winger Belic on a six-month loan from West Ham and forward Bowman on a two-year deal from Gateshead after the high profile departure of Marvin Johnson to Oxford last Wednesday night.

“Faddy has taken the technical side of training and the players have enjoyed it,” said Lasley.

“The two new guys have settled in well.

“They will obviously be different from Marvin in style, but hopefully they can have a good impact.

“Luka is a bit smaller than Marvin but he looks a technical type who can manipulate the ball and take somebody on.

“The other lad is a big striker. He comes with a pedigree of finding the back of the net which is always a good option.

“They add to the squad and provide good competition.

“Motherwell has proved to be a good place for guys coming up from down south to showcase their talent. Hopefully they can do that.”

Keith knows that the departed Johnson – who left Motherwell 18 months after signing from Kidderminster Harriers – will be a hard man to emulate.

“Marv was a big player for us,” he added.

“When he was on song he made chances and scored goals.

“But that’s football. Things move quickly and we just need to kick on.

“When one door closes another one opens and I’m sure somebody else can step in and take on the mantle.”

Lasley said he was feeling refreshed after getting the chance to spend more time with his family during an international break which ironically saw his gaffer Mark McGhee, the Scotland assistant manager, in Malta for our emphatic 5-1 World Cup qualifying victory on Sunday night.

The veteran midfielder added: “These weeks give you more time with the family, which can be mentally good for players and mean that we’re raring to go when the club football resumes.”

Motherwell will visit Ross County upon the resumption of Scottish Premiership action this Saturday, with Lasley keen for a repeat of the 3-1 victory at the ground in May which cemented a fifth place finish last season.
