Following Michael Higdon’s decision not to sign a new contract Motherwell have replaced him with the man he replaced two years ago.

John Sutton has returned to Fir Park for a second spell after a difficult spell at Tynecastle which ended when he was made redundant by crisis-hit Hearts last week.

He said: “It was a relatively easy choice to return to Motherwell.

“There were other options but when Motherwell came in I knew this was the place I wanted to be.

“I still have lots of friends here and I enjoy playing for the manager and Kenny Black.

“All the people at the club were fantastic with me first time round, I wasn’t all that keen to leave in the first place.

“I maybe doubted the manager too much when he said he could bring in players to do as good a job as those who were out of contract at that time.

“The club has been brilliant since I left and it will be a tough task to repeat a second place finish, but there is a lot of good players here and can still be challenging for the top six and going on cup runs.

“A lot of players have left, but it’s up to the boys who are left to give it their best shot.

“You can’t worry about the past and just make sure you play as well as you can.”
