THORNIEWOOD were denied victory in bizarre fashion at Dalry Thistle on Saturday when a last-minute injury to their own goalkeeper forced the match to be abandoned.

The Viewpark side were 2-1 up as the Super League First Division clash moved into the 90th minute when ‘keeper Jon Connolly fumbled a cross and brought down a Dalry player as he tried to retrieve the ball. But he suffered a head injury after colliding with his own defenders.

The referee awarded a penalty to the home side and was about to send Connolly off for a second yellow card but it quickly became apparent that the ‘keeper’s injury was a serious one and the match was abandoned.

Connolly was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock suffering form whiplash and concussion but thankfully was released later in the evening and was recovering at home this week.
