Motherwell took on Championship side Fulham in their only public outing before heading into European competition.

The visit saw the return of Shaun Hutchinson to Fir Park having joined the London side in the summer as well as £11 million striker Ross McCormack.

The home side had the first chance of the game as Bob McHugh helped the ball on to Iain Vigurs, but he shot wide.

On 20 minutes it was Fulham who took the lead as CAMERON BURGESS rose highest to head in a Chris David corner.

In response McHugh forced a save out of Marcus Bettinelli and John Sutton fired over, while Kay Voser kept Dan Twardzik alert, if not really tested, at the other end.

At half-time Stuart McCall sent on Zaine Francis-Angol as one of three substitutions, but the winger only lasted eight minutes before he limped off having injured a tendon in his leg.

On 53 minutes Fulham doubled their advantage as KONSTANTINOS STAFYLIDIS hit a shot from outside the box that Twardzik fumbled over the line.

’Well tried to hit back and Vigurs produced some good work down the right, but tried to score from a near impossible angle, when a cross might have proved to be the better option.

He then tried to lob substitute goalkeeper Jesse Joronen from 40 yards, but fluffed his effort and the Finn gathered comfortably.

Vigurs was denied again by Joronen after Stevie Hammell’s cutback found him at the edge of the box.

Hutchinson received a huge ovation from the near 2,500 strong crowd inside Fir Park as he departed with 10 minutes to go, enabling himself to say a proper goodbye to the fans he had played in front of for the last five years.

Twardzik went some may to redeeming himself for his earlier effort as he dived to tip over McCormack’s drive.

The Czech goalkeeper then pulled off a fine double to deny Mesca after the Portugese midfielder had dribbled through the Motherwell defence and George Williams on the subsequent rebound.
