Junior sides Thorniewood United and Bellshill Athletic hope normal service will be resumed on Saturday after enduring further frustration last weekend as their games once again fell victims to the weather.

Waterlogged pitches forced the cancellation of Thorniewood’s Super League First Division encounter with Neilston at Robertson Park and Bellshill’s Central League First Division game with Renfrew at Fullarton Park - leaving the sides once again with nothing to kick but their heels on the sidelines.

Bellshill have played just three league games since December 6 while it’s been a similar story for Thorniewood who have also managed only three league fixtures in that period and haven’t played at all since January 24.

Thorniewood remain second bottom of the table and while they have games in hand over most of the sides above them a fixture backlog isn’t likely to help their hope sof beating the drop.

This Saturday - weather permitting - they travel to face a Kilsyth Rangers side who are fourth in the table and won 2-1 when the sides met at Robertson Park in November.

Bellshill remain top of the Central First Division standings but their lead has been cut to four points by Lesmahagow who also have two games in hand.

This Saturday Bellshill are scheduled to take on Dunipace who are fifth in the table and 12 points adrift of Athletic, but with three games in hand. Both Saturday’s games are due to kick-off at 2pm.
