It’s Scottish Junior Cup time for Bellshill Athletic and Thorniewood United on Saturday as they enter the junior game’s blue riband event at the second round stage.
Bellshill will help to make history when they travel to face Grantown in what will be the Highland side’s first ever Scottish Junior Cup tie.
Thorniewood – who like Bellshill received a bye in the first round – have a home tie against East Region side Kirrie Thistle.
Bellshill head north expecting a tough game against a well-motivated Grantown side, who were only formed in 2007 and played in the Inverness local leagues before entering the junior ranks for the first time this season.
Grantown are second in the North Region First Division West table, but Bellshill are also going well with five wins out of six Central First Division games so far.
They took Super League side Yoker all the way to penalties with 10 men in the West of Scotland Cup last week,
By contrast, Thorniewood are still looking for their first Super League First Division win of the season and were beaten 3-0 by Pollok in their West tie.
Kirrie are 10th in the East Region North Division table and lost 7-3 at Larkhall in the second round last year. Bellshill also went out in the second round last year to Deveronside while Thorniewood made it to round three before losing to St Andrew’s United.
Both Saturday’s ties kick off at 2.30pm.
