Strong Motherwell FC connection in Big Eck's new Scotland set-up

Former Motherwell FC stars James McFadden and Stevie Woods have both earned roles in the new look Scotland coaching set-up.

Fir Park great Faddy – who only left as ’Well assistant boss last summer – will join Celtic legend Peter Grant as assistants to Alex McLeish, while Woods is the new goalkeeping coach.

McLeish said: “James brings a youthful enthusiasm to the coaching team, but beyond that he offers a relatable figure for the players to look up to.

“He bore the hopes of a nation on his shoulders for many years and was a talisman for the national team during his career – to have a former player of that ilk on the coaching staff can only be an inspiration for the current players.

“Stevie is a highly-respected figure as a goalkeeping coach (with Celtic) and is well-known to many of the players.

“His experience of working with top quality keepers at the highest level will be invaluable to the squad.”

Scotland gaffer McLeish, who bossed ’Well from 1994 to ’98, on Monday named his Scotland squad for the Hampden friendly against Costa Rica on March 23.

’Well defender Richard Tait – widely touted for a cap – missed out on inclusion.
