Motherwell ‘s revival following the international break continued on Sunday as they came away from Celtic Park with a point.

Stuart McCall sent out his side in a 4-5-1 formation and they quickly began to dominate midfield against the champions, who looked far below their best.

Iain Vigurs had the first real chance as John Sutton headed into his path, but his volley sliced away from the target.

However, ’Well did take the lead in 19 minutes as Craig Reid crossed from the right and SUTTON got across the front of Jason Denyer to score.

Denyer tried to make amends for letting Sutton get the better of him with a decent effort from 25 yards, but Dan Twardzik plucked it out the air with a diving catch.

Vigurs then had a shot blocked by the arm of Virgil Van Dijk, but referee Brian Colvin ignored the penalty appeals.

Sutton should have made it 2-0 as Keith Lasley’s shot was deflected into his path, but with the goal at his mercy he screwed his effort wide.

Beram Kayal came within inches and then Twardzik clawed out a Van Dijk header at the post as the hosts finally looked threatening.

At half time Ronny Delia sent on Kris Commons and Scott Brown and with them pulling the strings Celtic would dominate.

Although for all their dominance they weren’t really working Twardzik as Callum McGregor, John Guidetti and Commons all got themselves into good positions, but lacked a finish.

The home side did equalise on 68 minutes as Brown was fouled outside the box by Lasley, but waited until there was the slightest contact from Josh Law to go down.

COMMONS stepped up and sent Twardzik the wrong way from the spot.

Celtic pressed for a winner, Twardzik was determined not to be beaten again as he used his fingertips to deny McGregor and then pushed Commons’s shot onto the post.

Two minutes from time ’Well fashioned a rare second half chance as Law crossed low for Zaine Francis-Angol, but his half volley was high and wide.

In injury time Twardzik dropped a Stefan Scepovic header, but recovered before Commons could punce and honurs remained even.
