New Motherwell FC boss Graham Alexander disputes late St Mirren penalty equaliser in 1-1 draw

Alexander reckoned Bevis Mugabi made minimal contact with Lee Erwin for a 79th minute decision which led to Jamie McGrath scoring from the spot to earn Saints a point against an impressive Motherwell outfit who had earlier taken a first half lead through Devante Cole.

“It’s bitter sweet,” Alexander said.

"I’m really happy with the way the players took on board the limited information yesterday and actually put it into practice.

“I think if we had continued doing what we did in the first half we would have won the game.

"I thought the penalty was coming because I thought there was a lot of noise on virtually every challenge.

"And I mean every challenge, personally. I’ve watched it back (the penalty incident) from the camera and I hardly see anything.

"But we’ve got to take it on the chin, go again and get some good training for the boys this week and try and focus on the positives we showed today.

"I feel for the guys because I don’t think they (St Mirren) deserved to score. We could and probably should have been 2-0 up at half-time with Tony’s (Watt) header.

"The keeper's made an unbelievable save from Mark’s (O’Hara) free-kick at the end.

"What I liked about it was we didn’t feel sorry for ourselves at 1-1. We continued to attack and try and score goals and we had a couple of opportunities.”
