Motherwell loss at Ross County was “maddening” says defender Nathan McGinley

Motherwell ace Nathan McGinley says it was “maddening” that the team lost their Premiership opener 1-0 at Ross County on Monday.

A night of frustration included Motherwell dominating chances and possession, Liam Donnelly missing a second half penalty and substitute Callum Lang being shown a straight red card late on.

“Losing is frustrating,” McGinley said.

“We can’t believe how many chances we had.

“It’s maddening when you look back. We started pretty slow and we conceded early which isn’t ideal but after that we dominated the game.

“We deserved a lot more.”

McGinley – who impressed rampaging forward from left back – said life had been made difficult by the Highlanders as they started extremely sharply for the opening 15 minutes and then sat in and defended.

“I probably prefer playing centre half but I really enjoy left back as you can get forward a lot more,” he added.

“I feel like my attributes suit both positions. No matter where the gaffer wants to play me I’ll do a job.

“It was weird playing in front of no fans at County (due to Covid-19 restrictions).

“And I think the Lang sending off was harsh, it’s obviously frustrating.”
