Motherwell Ladies FC will be back training soon says First Minister

Hopes were high for an immiment return of Scottish football leagues below the Championship as the Times and Speaker went to press on Tuesday.

Speaking at Holyrood on Tuesday, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon revealed that Scottish League 1 and 2 clubs and those in SWPL 1 – including Motherwell Ladies FC – could return to training, but players must be tested before matches.

Sturgeon also confirmed "certain Highland League teams" would be allowed to return to fulfil Scottish Cup ties.

The news comes almost two months since games outside the Premiership and Championship were suspended in January amid rising Covid-19 infections.

Meanwhile, Ricky Waddell – manager of Lowland League side Caledonian Braves –told us that he’d support a brief return of his division to enable teams to complete 50% of their 2020-21 league games, thus ensuring the campaign couldn’t be null and voided.
