Frantic day of activity for Motherwell FC!

A busy Friday of activity for Motherwell FC saw the scheduled league encounter at Kilmarnock postponed after the entire Killie squad were told to self isolate for 14 days after six of them tested positive for coronavirus.

And the 'Well were active in the transfer market, with striker Devante Cole joining until the end of the season and winger Jermaine Hylton departing for Premiership rivals Ross County.

The Rugby Park encounter was put off following discussions between Kilmarnock FC, NHS Ayrshire and Arran, the Scottish Government, Public Health Scotland and the Scottish FA on Friday morning.

A statement on the MFC website read: "Motherwell FC believes the right course of action has been taken, in order to protect players and staff of both clubs.

"We wish those effected by the virus a speedy recovery to full health.

"An investigation will now be carried out by the SPFL to ascertain the circumstances leading to this postponement."

The SPFL board will reconvene on Monday to discuss Kilmarnock's next two fixtures - away to Falkirk and at home to Dunfermline in the Scottish League Cup - which fall within the self-isolation period.

Competition protocols published last month suggest that if they are unable or unwilling to field a team in those games, they would forfeit the match 3-0.

A spokesman for the SPFL said: “No new date for this fixture has been set, pending the outcome of the SPFL investigation.”

Meanwhile Cole arrives for a second spell at Fir Park, having made 21 appearances during a loan spell last season.

He joins after departing Doncaster Rovers, for whom he made nine appearances.

'Well manager Stephen Robinson said: “Obviously we have worked with Devante before, so we know what are getting from him.

“He give us options all across the forward line and adds pace. He has proven he can score goals coming in from the wider positions and he will add real competition to the front line.”

Hylton departs Motherwell having scored four times in 41 appearances for the Steelmen after joining from Solihull Moors in the summer of 2019.

The player tweeted: "Really enjoyed my time at Motherwell, the boys made me feel welcome from day one, the manager and coaching staff were top notch an the fans have been brilliant. Thanks for the memories!"

Boss Robbo said: “We wish Jermaine good luck and all the best for his future.

“At his age he wanted regular football. This was a good opportunity for him and we feel the way he has conducted himself deserved that chance to leave now.”
